Disconnect the accelerator pump rod from the pump arm. Install the accelerator pump rod to the pump arm on the new pump housing. Being sure that the carburetor-body-to-accelerator-pump-housing surface is clean, install the new accelerator pump components in the carburetor body.
Install the accelerator pump housing retaining bolts and tighten. A tight bearings clearance preloads the bearings excessively and causes them to over-heat. A loose bearing clearance allows the hub to shift position as the bearing load changes during vehicle acceleration, braking and turning. A loose bearing clearance can also cause front-end "shimmy", vehicle vibration and low brake pedal height as a result of the disc brake pad "knock-back" caused by the rotor wobble.
Raise the vehicle. Remove the wheel cover and drive gear cap. Remove the drive gear retaining ring. Remove the drive gear, pressure spring and spring cup. Remove the outer locknut and lockwasher. NOTE: If necessary, repack the wheel bearings.

I have the voltmeter in the dash. The cable I am referring to is the heavy guage charge cable. It kind of makes sense that it would go to the battery terminal, but it looks so hacked together that after seeing the Chief done another way it caused me to doubt.
Last edited by msbiofuels : at PM. If only it were that easy. This one seems to indicate a starter with an external solenoid, but I think I remember mine having a starter with a built-in solenoid. Make sure to replace the charge cable with stout er wire. The OEM wire is supposed to be 8 gage, I believe, but it looks smaller.
I would try to go 8 or larger. I use narrow batt wire, 4 I think. I think it goes through a fusable link from the alt directly to the relay. This is a weak link due to the fusable link and poor grade wire used, IMHO. I use large gage wiring and a ressettable fuse, no fusable link on the charging side. Woody Mammoth. Your friend's Jeep has an ammeter in the dash while yours has a voltage guage.
If you look at the diagram that Joe linked to, you should have a heavier red wire from the B terminal on the alternator going through a yellow fusible link to the starter relay they're calling it a solenoid, but the solenoid like you said is on the starter. Thread Tools.
